Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
FCP_MCP_INDEXNoSet to off to disable the analysis cache. Every tool still answers, only slower.off
FCP_WATCH_DIRNoDirectory watched to notice the operator's manual Cmd-E XML exports from Final Cut Pro (used by watch_start/watch_pull to close the round-trip). Can be set once instead of calling watch_start per session.
FCP_MCP_AUTOPUSHNoWhen set to 1, automatically pushes generated FCPXML into a running Final Cut Pro (equivalent to calling deliver.push_to_fcp).1
FCP_PROJECTS_DIRYesDirectory containing your Final Cut Pro projects/exports, e.g. ~/Movies. Set via the MCP server config env (e.g. `claude mcp add fcpxml -e FCP_PROJECTS_DIR=~/Movies -- uvx fcp-mcp-server` or the `env` block of claude_desktop_config.json / .mcp.json).
