Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
--quietNoDisable file logging, only log errors to console. Also available as -q.
--log-fileNoLog file path or filename. If not specified, logs are written to console only.
--toolsetsNoComma-separated list of toolsets to enable (e.g. projects, deployments) or 'all' to enable all toolsets explicitly. Default enables all toolsets.
--log-levelNoMinimum log level (info, error).
--read-onlyNoEnable read-only mode: disable all curated write tools and block POST/PUT/PATCH/DELETE through execute. Writes are enabled by default; this flag turns them off.
--server-urlNoThe URL of your Octopus Deploy instance, e.g. https://your-octopus.com. Alternative to the OCTOPUS_SERVER_URL environment variable.
--allow-deletesNoPermit DELETE requests through the execute tool. Ignored (with a startup warning) when --read-only is set. Default false.
OCTOPUS_API_KEYNoYour Octopus Deploy API key (recommended for interactive use). Credentials must be supplied via environment variables, as they are not accepted as command-line arguments.
OCTOPUS_SERVER_URLNoThe URL of your Octopus Deploy instance, e.g. https://your-octopus.com. May alternatively be supplied via the --server-url flag.
OCTOPUS_ACCESS_TOKENNoA short-lived access (Bearer) token, intended only for automated scenarios such as CI/CD pipelines. Takes precedence over OCTOPUS_API_KEY if both are provided.
--list-tools-by-versionNoList all registered tools by their supported Octopus Server version and exit.
OCTOPUS_SKIP_ELICITATIONNoSet to true to bypass the MCP elicitation confirmation gate for write tools entirely (intended for unattended automation).
