Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
OPENAI_API_KEYNoOpenAI API key used for Whisper voice-message transcription (recommended, fastest). Set in ~/.claude/channels/telegram/.env. Uses whisper-1 by default ($0.006/min). Optional if you use local whisper.cpp or openai-whisper instead.
TELEGRAPH_ENABLEDNoSet to true to enable publishing long-form content (3000+ chars) to Telegraph (telegra.ph) as Instant View articles. Disabled by default because posts are publicly accessible by URL; when disabled the create_telegraph_page tool is hidden.false
TELEGRAM_BOT_TOKENYesYour Telegram bot token from BotFather (looks like 123456789:AAHfiqksKZ8...). Written to ~/.claude/channels/telegram/.env by /telegram:configure, or set in your shell environment (shell takes precedence). The server won't connect without it.
OPENAI_WHISPER_MODELNoOpenAI transcription model to use instead of the default whisper-1, e.g. gpt-4o-transcribe.whisper-1
TELEGRAM_ROUTER_MODELNoRouter model for two-tier model routing: Haiku (fast, 200K), Sonnet (balanced, 1M), or Opus (deep, 1M).
TELEGRAM_ESCALATION_MODELNoTarget model that complex tasks auto-escalate to via subagents (default is Opus).
