Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.
| Name | Required | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| TETHER_TOKEN | Yes | The token that authenticates an agent to Tether's MCP server at `/mcp`. It is created on Settings → Tokens → Connect an agent (or on the host with `./manage.sh agent <machine>`, or `python3 -m hub.tokens create <name> read`), is shown only once, and is locked to the address it is first used from. In the Codex line it is passed as `TETHER_TOKEN`; in Claude Code it is passed with `-e TETHER_TOKEN=tht_...`, e.g. `claude mcp add tether -e TETHER_TOKEN=tht_... -- sudo docker exec -i -e TETHER_TOKEN tether-tether-1 python3 -m hub.bridge`. | |
| HUB_PUBLIC_URL | No | The address your machines reach Tether at, if it differs from the page's address. Set in `.env` on the hub so that `/mcp` (served at `https://<your Tether host>/mcp` through Traefik) is reachable from your Claude Code machines and other MCP clients. | |
| TETHER_MCP_FROM | No | Comma-separated address ranges that may reach the hub's `/mcp` endpoint, narrowing the default of private addresses only. Used with `compose.traefik.yaml`. |
