Merlin MCP

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

Name	Required	Description
`MERLIN_DB`	No	SQLite database path for pending sends. Default: ./merlin.sqlite.
`API_BEARER`	No	Bearer token for /api/* REST endpoints. Required for the REST API when serving HTTP.
`MCP_BEARER`	No	Bearer token for the /mcp endpoint. Required when serving MCP over HTTP.
`MOODLE_URL`	No	Pins the server to one Merlin/Moodle year URL.
`MERLIN_YEARS`	No	Comma-separated academic years to read, e.g. "2025-2026,2026-2027".
`MOODLE_TOKEN`	Yes	Moodle web-service token for your Merlin account. Required.
`RELAY_BEARER`	No	Bearer token for the phone-approval relay that polls GET /api/pending. When set, moodle_send_message is offered.
`MOODLE_TOKENS`	No	JSON map of academic year to Moodle token, e.g. {"2025-2026":"..."}; missing years fall back to MOODLE_TOKEN.
`MOODLE_CONTACT`	No	Contact details added to the User-Agent for polite requests.
`LEGACY_API_BEARER`	No	Set to "1" to allow the old single-bearer setup where /api and /mcp share a bearer.
`MERLIN_PUBLIC_URL`	No	Public base URL used for approval links behind a reverse proxy.
`MERLIN_ENABLE_SEND`	No	Set to 0 to disable message sending even if RELAY_BEARER is set.

Guidance the server publishes about itself, which clients place ahead of the tool catalog so the model reads it before choosing anything.
