Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.
| Name | Required | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| DO_NOT_TRACK | No | Set to 1 to turn off the one anonymous usage ping a day (equivalent to `engram telemetry off`). | |
| ENGRAM_TOOLS | No | Set to all to opt in to the 40 Advanced MCP tools. By default only the 19 Core tools are loaded. | |
| ENGRAM_SEARCH | No | Set to hybrid to opt in to hybrid retrieval (FTS5 full-text plus a semantic vector layer) for cross-lingual recall. The default keyword search stays unchanged. | |
| ENGRAM_APPROVAL | No | Set to strict to gate every write behind user approval. Default policy auto-absorbs low/medium-risk writes (still auditable and reversible) while high-risk items (credentials, shell commands, MCP config, permission rules) wait for review. | |
| ENGRAM_NO_UPDATE_CHECK | No | Set to 1 to turn off the PyPI update check that otherwise runs at most once a day. |
