Tools

Functions exposed to the LLM to take actions

NameDescription
list_printersB

List configured printers.

print_cardsA

Print one or more cards on a printer (default printer if omitted). Returns the job, including its id and status.

Card format (Markdown subset). Each # Title starts a new card; --- also starts one. Inside a card: ## Heading, plain paragraphs, - bullets, 1. numbered, - [ ] todo, - [x] done, > aside. Keep cards short: one thought per card, a title plus up to ~6 lines. The paper is only ~48mm wide (~25 characters per line), so prefer short words and lines.

preview_cardsA

Render cards exactly as they would print, without printing. Returns images.

Card format (Markdown subset). Each # Title starts a new card; --- also starts one. Inside a card: ## Heading, plain paragraphs, - bullets, 1. numbered, - [ ] todo, - [x] done, > aside. Keep cards short: one thought per card, a title plus up to ~6 lines. The paper is only ~48mm wide (~25 characters per line), so prefer short words and lines.

print_pictureB

Print an image file from this computer (photo, sketch, diagram). It is scaled to the printer width and dithered to black and white. Returns the job.

printer_statusA

Check a printer before printing: battery_percent, paper, cover and temperature. Warn the user when the battery is low (under ~20%) before long prints.

list_print_jobsA

Recent print jobs, newest first: id, status (queued, printing, done, unconfirmed, cancelled, failed), progress and a summary. "done" on a thermal printer means the printer confirmed the cards came out; "unconfirmed" means the data was sent but the printer never said so, so ask the user to check.

cancel_printA

Cancel a print job by id (or unique id prefix). Without an id, cancels every unfinished job. A thermal print stops after the current block and feeds the paper out.

reprintB

Print a previous job again, optionally on a different printer. Default: the last job.

TDQS

A3.7/5.0

Scored across 8 tools

Disambiguation5/5

Each tool targets a clearly distinct action: printing (print_cards, print_picture), rendering (preview_cards), cancelling (cancel_print), reprinting (reprint), and read-only queries (list_printers, list_print_jobs, printer_status). print_cards vs print_picture vs reprint are naturally separable by content type and source. No overlap or confusion.

Naming Consistency4/5

Mostly follows a verb_noun snake_case pattern (print_cards, preview_cards, cancel_print, list_printers, list_print_jobs). Minor deviations exist: printer_status is noun_noun rather than a verb, and reprint is a bare verb. Still predictable and readable overall.

Tool Count5/5

Eight tools is well-scoped for a thermal printer server, covering printing, previewing, job management, and device queries. Each tool earns its place with no redundancy.

Completeness4/5

Covers the core print lifecycle: print, preview, list jobs, reprint, cancel, plus printer listing and status. Minor gaps like clearing job history or deleting individual jobs exist but are not essential to core workflows.
