Poll monitored playlist

poll_monitored_playlist

Refresh observations for a registered playlist through its source-aware polling path, returning the poll outcome and observation summary when fresh data is needed.

Instructions

Refresh observations for a registered playlist through its source-aware polling path. Use after list_monitored_playlists when fresh observations are needed; use list_monitored_playlist_events for cached discoveries. Stdio requires the resident Uoink helper. Managed sources honor due-time and lease gates, and detection does not enqueue captures; captures require separate source consent and reservations. Returns the poll outcome and observation summary.

TDQS

A4.6/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations: discloses the stdio helper dependency, that managed sources honor due-time and lease gates (explaining non-idempotency and why repeated polls may not refresh), and that detection does not enqueue captures while captures need separate consent and reservations. That last point is essential for an agent that might assume polling produces captures, and it is consistent with destructiveHint=false.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness4/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Four tight sentences, front-loaded with the action, then routing, then environment/side-effect caveats. Dense but every clause carries operational information; some domain jargon ('source-aware polling path') adds little.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

With no output schema, the description still says what comes back ('poll outcome and observation summary'), and it covers the prerequisites, gating behavior, and the capture/consent boundary an agent must know before calling. Nothing operationally necessary is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters3/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 100% and the single playlist_id parameter is already documented as an integer monitor ID from add_monitored_playlist or list_monitored_playlists. The description adds only the implicit constraint that the playlist must be registered; baseline 3 is correct when the schema carries the parameter semantics.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (refresh/poll observations) on a specific resource (a registered monitored playlist), and explicitly separates it from list_monitored_playlists (registration) and list_monitored_playlist_events (cached discoveries). An agent can route among the three playlist tools without opening any schema.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Gives an explicit trigger ('use after list_monitored_playlists when fresh observations are needed') and names the alternative with the condition that selects it ('use list_monitored_playlist_events for cached discoveries'). Prerequisites (registered playlist, resident Uoink helper for stdio) are stated up front.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
