Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.
| Name | Required | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| GROKBOT_BIND | No | Bind address for the HTTP MCP server. Loopback or Tailscale CGNAT bind only; '0.0.0.0' is refused. | 127.0.0.1 |
| GROKBOT_BOX_HOST | No | Hostname used for SSH to the Linux VM (default 'grokbot-box'; replace with your MagicDNS name `<host>.<tailnet>.ts.net` if it differs). | grokbot-box |
| SAND_BACKEND_URL | No | Backend URL override for the standalone ConnectRPC bridge. | |
| GROKBOT_HTTP_PORT | No | Port for the HTTP MCP server (e.g. when running `grokbot mcp --http`). | 14789 |
| GROKBOT_NOTCH_URL | No | URL of the grokbot-notch bridge to use when GROKBOT_TRANSPORT=notch. | http://127.0.0.1:4789 |
| GROKBOT_TRANSPORT | No | Transport mode. Default is 'auto' (standalone when session files exist, else notch if the launch token file exists, else a clear doctor error). Other values: 'notch' to use a running GrokBot Notch bridge, 'mock' for tests. | auto |
| GROKBOT_MOCK_TOKEN | No | Token used by the mock bridge (`grokbot mock`). For tests only. | |
| GROKBOT_ACCESS_TOKEN | No | Advanced: gateway token. Prefer the desktop session. A gateway token or a local `grokbot mcp` process can send chat as you, so treat it like a password. Do not pass secrets on the command line. | |
| GROKBOT_GATEWAY_HOME | No | Config directory override. Default is ~/.config/grokbot-gateway (0700), containing config.json, tokens.json, audit.log, and ssh/. | |
| GROKBOT_CLIENT_VERSION | No | Client version sent to the Grok Bot backend. Set to the version found in /Applications/Grok Bot.app if ListGrokBotAgents starts failing after a Grok Bot update. Do not patch the app bundle. |
