mcp-danish-energy
# mcp-danish-energy ⚡
MCP server for Danish energy data from [Energi Data Service](https://www.energidataservice.dk/) (Energinet).
Part of the **Nordic MCP Toolkit** — open-source MCP servers for Danish/Nordic data sources.
## Features
- **Electricity spot prices** — hourly Elspot prices for DK1/DK2, with averages and ranges
- **CO2 emissions** — real-time emission intensity (g CO2/kWh) with 5-minute resolution
- **Energy production mix** — wind (offshore/onshore), solar, conventional, and cross-border exchange
- **Cheapest hours** — find optimal times for EV charging, laundry, heat pumps
## Tools
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
| `electricity_prices` | Current and upcoming spot prices |
| `co2_emissions` | Real-time CO2 emission intensity |
| `energy_mix` | Live production breakdown with renewable share |
| `cheapest_hours` | Find cheapest hours (individual or consecutive blocks) |
## Quick Start
```bash
# Install dependencies
npm install
# Run
node src/index.js
```
### Claude Desktop Configuration
```json
{
"mcpServers": {
"danish-energy": {
"command": "node",
"args": ["/path/to/mcp-danish-energy/src/index.js"]
}
}
}
```
## Price Areas
Denmark is split into two electricity price areas:
- **DK1** — Western Denmark (Jutland and Funen, west of Storebælt)
- **DK2** — Eastern Denmark (Zealand, Lolland-Falster, Bornholm, east of Storebælt)
You can use area codes (`DK1`, `DK2`) or city/region names (`Copenhagen`, `Aarhus`, etc.).
## Data Source
All data comes from [Energi Data Service](https://www.energidataservice.dk/) by Energinet, Denmark's transmission system operator. The API is free, requires no authentication, and provides real-time data with 5-minute resolution.

Scored across 4 tools
Each tool has a clearly distinct purpose: cheapest_hours focuses on cost optimization, co2_emissions on carbon intensity, electricity_prices on raw spot prices, and energy_mix on production sources. There is no overlap in functionality, making tool selection straightforward for an agent.
All tool names follow a consistent snake_case pattern with descriptive, domain-specific terms (e.g., cheapest_hours, co2_emissions). The naming is uniform and predictable, enhancing readability and coherence across the toolset.
With 4 tools, the server is well-scoped for providing Danish energy data, covering key aspects like pricing, emissions, production mix, and cost optimization. Each tool earns its place without feeling excessive or insufficient for the domain.
The toolset offers complete coverage for accessing real-time Danish energy data, including prices, emissions, production mix, and cost-saving insights. There are no obvious gaps for the server's purpose, enabling agents to handle various energy-related queries effectively.
