# Oracle DB MCP Server

A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that lets AI assistants (e.g. GitHub Copilot) query the Richardson Oracle databases directly.

## Prerequisites

- **VS Code**
- The pre-built **`oracle-mcp.exe`** binary from the [GitHub Releases](https://github.com/ri-dshah/MCP/releases) page

## 1. Install the exe

1. Go to the [Releases page](https://github.com/ri-dshah/MCP/releases) and download the latest `oracle-mcp.exe` release asset.
2. Save it to `C:\development\tools\oracle-mcp.exe` (create the `tools` folder if needed). The configuration below expects this exact path.

## 2. Configure GitHub Copilot (VS Code)

1. Open VSCode and press `Ctrl+Shift+P` then select `MCP:Open User Configuration`.
2. Paste the following config inside the json file and modify the credentials as needed.

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "ri-oracle": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "C:/development/tools/oracle-mcp.exe",
      "args": [],
      "env": {
        "ORACLE_USER": "<your-pccs-username>", //eg. 'dshah'
        "ORACLE_PASSWORD": "<your-pccs-password>",  // if you can guess this, please submit a PR to have me change my password.
        "ORACLE_CONNECT_STRING": "pccs.richardson.ca", //can modify to point to a different layer if needed
        "ORACLE_USER_PIFS": "<your-pifs-username>",
        "ORACLE_PASSWORD_PIFS": "<your-pifs-password>",
        "ORACLE_CONNECT_STRING_PIFS": "pifs.richardson.ca" //can modify to point to a different layer if needed
      }
    }
  }
}
```

## 3. Start and verify

1. Click **Start** on the `ri-oracle` server. You should the status as running now.

2. Ask Copilot: *"Give me 5 products from 240 table"* - You know what to expect.
3. Feel free to reach out to [Me](https://portfolio-shahdipesh.vercel.app/) if you have any issue.
