Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.
| Name | Required | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| APP_PORT | No | Host port the app is published on. | 3000 |
| APP_ORIGIN | No | Comma-separated origins the app is served from. Together with PUBLIC_ORIGIN, what a write's Origin is checked against when the browser sends no Sec-Fetch-Site. | http://localhost:${APP_PORT} |
| MONGODB_URI | Yes | Point the app at your own MongoDB instead of the bundled one. Everything is optional except the database. | mongodb://mongo:27017/boardplanner |
| PUBLIC_ORIGIN | Yes | The one address this instance calls its own, and the base of every link it sends. Required for MCP, PM OAuth and enrolling a worker. Must be an http/https URL. | |
| ENCRYPTION_KEY | No | 32 bytes, hex or standard base64 (not base64url), encrypting stored integration tokens (including MCP credentials) and chat webhook URLs at rest. Generate one with `openssl rand -hex 32`. | |
| BOOTSTRAP_TOKEN | No | The setup code the first account is created with, 16 characters or more. Generated and printed to the log when unset. | |
| TRUSTED_PROXY_HOPS | No | How many proxies append to X-Forwarded-For in front of this app. | 0 |
| ENCRYPTION_KEYS_OLD | No | Comma-separated retired keys, so a rotation can still read what they wrote. | |
| BOARD_PLANNER_VERSION | No | Which published image compose runs. | latest |
| COOKIE_ALLOW_INSECURE | No | `1` issues the session cookie without Secure and without the __Host- prefix, for an instance served over plain HTTP. `auto` does that only while PUBLIC_ORIGIN and every APP_ORIGIN are http://. `0`, empty or unset: the secure cookie. | auto |
| WEBHOOK_SIGNING_SECRET | No | Signs outgoing webhook deliveries. |
