dialog_search

Search ingested Claude Code transcripts using hybrid, semantic, or keyword modes to find relevant conversations.

Instructions

Search ingested Claude Code transcripts.

mode='hybrid' (default) combines semantic and FTS5 keyword via RRF. mode='semantic' is pure cosine. mode='fts' is pure FTS5 keyword.

Behavior2/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

No annotations are provided, so the description must carry the full burden. It only describes the mode behaviors (hybrid, semantic, fts) but does not disclose whether the tool is read-only, performance characteristics, or any side effects. The behavioral disclosure is minimal.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

The description is three sentences, front-loaded with the purpose, and every word adds value. No fluff or repetition.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness2/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Given that output schema exists, return values are not required. However, the tool has four parameters and only the mode is explained. Key parameters like 'k' and 'role' are undocumented. Also, no differentiation from the sibling 'search' tool, making the context incomplete for an agent to select correctly.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters2/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 0%, so the description should compensate. It explains the 'mode' parameter well but does not clarify 'query' (beyond search context), 'k' (default 5 but no units), or 'role' (empty default). Most parameters lack semantic guidance.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose4/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

The description clearly states the tool searches 'ingested Claude Code transcripts,' which is a specific verb and resource. However, it does not differentiate from the sibling tool 'search,' which may have overlapping functionality.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines2/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

The description explains the mode parameter options but provides no guidance on when to use this tool versus alternatives like 'search' or what contexts are appropriate. No exclusions or prerequisites are mentioned.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
