Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
GROQ_API_KEYNoProvider API key used to unlock more models and higher limits (e.g. passed with `--env GROQ_API_KEY` to the Docker image; other providers can be configured the same way via `freellmpool keys add <name>`). The proxy/MCP server can start without credentials when an enabled keyless route is available.
FREELLMPOOL_MODENoConservative quota mode. `FREELLMPOOL_MODE=wise` makes ask default to a smaller output budget and spread routing, narrows tokenmax fan-out, and requires confirmation for broad multi-model calls.normal
FREELLMPOOL_ROUTINGNoRouting strategy; set to `fast` to prefer the lowest-latency provider instead of the default least-used-first.least-used-first
FREELLMPOOL_PROXY_KEYNoBearer token required from clients when the proxy is deliberately exposed beyond loopback; on loopback any placeholder API key works unless this is set or `--api-key` is passed.
FREELLMPOOL_PUBLIC_BADGENoSet to 1 to let the proxy serve `/badge.svg` and `/summary.svg` as public, embeddable badges.0
