# Checkin

Gentle caretaking for people who live alone, built as an **Alexa+ track** project for the Amazon Developer Hackathon.

Ask Alexa+, "Is Mom okay today?" and Checkin compares her home activity (kitchen, front door, mailbox, medicine cabinet) with **her own** normal routine, then answers like a person would. No cameras, events only.

## How it works

- `src/server.ts` is a self-hosted **MCP server** using the Streamable HTTP transport (official TypeScript SDK) with four tools:
  - `get_today_rhythm`: lists today's sensor events in time order
  - `compare_to_usual`: compares today with the past two weeks and flags what is different
  - `log_check_in`: saves a note when someone calls or visits
  - `draft_message_to_family`: writes a kind, ready-to-send message to the family
- `src/data.ts` generates 15 days of simulated Ring-style sensor events (14 normal days and one unusual day).
- `src/simulator.ts` and `public/index.html` are a simulated Alexa+ experience. The simulator connects to the MCP server as a real MCP client and calls the tools.

## Run it

Requires Node.js 18 or newer.

```
npm install
npm run dev
```

In a second terminal:

```
npm run sim
```

Then open http://localhost:3001 and try the suggested questions.
