Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
MCP_DATA_DIRNoThe allowed root directory for filesystem tools (defaults to your home directory, $HOME or %USERPROFILE%). To change the root from the start: `MCP_DATA_DIR=/other/path npm start` (or `set MCP_DATA_DIR=D:\work` then `npm start` on Windows cmd).
PUBLIC_ORIGINNoOptional non-default variable set in `.env` (see `cp .env.example .env`) when you need a public origin other than the default.
GROK_CALLBACK_PREFIXNoAllowlisted redirect_uri prefix for Grok's OAuth callback (default `https://grok.com/connectors-oauth-exchange-code/`). If a future Grok change moves that callback, a rejected registration logs `register REJECTED (redirect_uri not allowlisted): [...]` so the new value can be re-allowlisted.
