💱 Currency Converter MCP Server
A simple **Model Context Protocol (MCP) server** built with Node.js that provides a currency conversion tool and can be connected to Claude Desktop.

## Installation

Open PowerShell/Terminal inside the project folder:

```bash
npm install
```

## Run the Server

```bash
npm start
```

You should see:

```text
MCP Currency Converter Server started
```

## MCP Tool

The server provides the following tool:

### `convertCurrency`

Converts an amount from one currency to another.

Example input:

```text
amount: 100
from: USD
to: INR
```

Example output:

```text
100 USD = 8800.00 INR
```

> **Note:** The current demo uses a hardcoded exchange rate of `88`. It is not a live exchange-rate API.

## Claude Desktop Configuration

Add the following configuration to the Claude Desktop MCP configuration file:

After saving the configuration, restart Claude Desktop.

Then open:

**Settings → Developer**

You should see:

currency-converter — Running
```

## Testing

In Claude Desktop, try:

```text
Convert 100 USD to INR using the currency converter.
```

The MCP server will call the `convertCurrency` tool and return the converted amount.

## Future Improvements

- Add a live exchange-rate API
- Support more currencies
- Add currency validation
- Add error handling for unsupported currencies
- Add more MCP tools
