Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
NOTEBOOKLM_API_KEYNoBearer token required to secure the HTTP API. Remote access and Docker deployments require this variable; it is not needed for local stdio MCP usage.
NOTEBOOKLM_UI_LOCALENoInterface language the browser fallback reads. Supported values include en, fr, de, ja. Independent of NOTEBOOKLM_CONTENT_LANGUAGE, which controls the language of generated content.
NOTEBOOKLM_CONTENT_LANGUAGENoDefault language for generated content. A BCP-47 code (e.g. es, ja, pt_BR, zh_Hans) or a language name in English or in the language itself (e.g. "Spanish", "Español"). 81 languages are accepted; an unrecognised value is refused. Deliberately independent of NOTEBOOKLM_UI_LOCALE, which only picks the interface language the browser fallback reads.
