Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
HOUTINI_LM_MODELNoPin the model to use, since on a big catalogue every unknown model scores the same and the first listed wins.
HOUTINI_LM_API_KEYNoAPI key for the endpoint, if the endpoint requires one.
HOUTINI_LM_THINKINGNoControls model thinking: 'auto' (default) switches thinking off for models detected as supporting the toggle, 'off' forces thinking off on every call, 'on' forces thinking on.
HOUTINI_LM_SERIALISENoWhether calls are queued one at a time. Set to 0 to turn off serialisation, e.g. for OpenAI, a router or a batching backend like vLLM. Default is 1.
HOUTINI_LM_MIN_TOKENSNoFloor applied to output token budgets so MCP clients passing tiny caps (like 256) don't strangle reasoning models mid-thought. Anything under 4,096 is ignored by default; set to 0 to disable this floor.
HOUTINI_LM_STRUCTUREDNoSet to 1 to have each inference result also carry a structuredContent block (answer, model, tokens, timing, quality flags) to read as JSON. Leave off for Claude Code.
HOUTINI_LM_ENDPOINT_URLNoThe URL of the OpenAI-compatible endpoint (e.g. LM Studio, Ollama, vLLM, SGLang, a LiteLLM router, or a cloud API such as OpenAI, DeepSeek, Groq). Defaults to http://localhost:1234.
