Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
OPENAI_API_KEYNoOpenAI API key used for Whisper voice transcription (e.g. sk-proj-...). Recommended transcription method -- fastest, highest quality, non-blocking. Set in ~/.claude/channels/telegram/.env.
TELEGRAPH_ENABLEDNoSet to true to enable publishing long-form content to Telegraph (telegra.ph) as Instant View articles. Disabled by default because posts are publicly accessible by URL.
TELEGRAM_BOT_TOKENYesTelegram bot token from BotFather (e.g. 123456789:AAHfiqksKZ8...). Written to ~/.claude/channels/telegram/.env via /telegram:configure, or set in your shell environment (shell takes precedence). The server won't connect without this.
OPENAI_WHISPER_MODELNoOpenAI transcription model to use. Defaults to whisper-1; can be switched to e.g. gpt-4o-transcribe.
TELEGRAM_ROUTER_MODELNoModel for the configurable router: Haiku (fast, 200K), Sonnet (balanced, 1M), or Opus (deep, 1M).
TELEGRAM_ESCALATION_MODELNoModel that complex tasks auto-escalate to via subagents (defaults to Opus).
