Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

Name	Required	Description
`CODEX_HOME`	No	Codex home directory. In central worker mode, every MCP client should use the same CODEX_HOME.
`CODEX_MCP_STATE_DB`	No	Path to the MCP state database. In central worker mode, every MCP client should use the same CODEX_MCP_STATE_DB.
`CODEX_MCP_EXECUTION_MODE`	No	Execution mode for the MCP server. The default `inline` mode lets one MCP process submit and execute operations. Set to `client` for OpenClaw gateway entries in central worker mode, or `worker` for the long-running worker process that owns codex-app-server, leases, queue slots, and resource locks.
`CODEX_MCP_MAX_ACTIVE_TURNS_GLOBAL`	No	Concurrency default: maximum number of active turns globally.
`CODEX_MCP_MAX_ACTIVE_TURNS_PER_AGENT`	No	Concurrency default: maximum number of active turns per agent.
`CODEX_MCP_MAX_ACTIVE_TURNS_PER_THREAD`	No	Concurrency default: maximum number of active turns per thread.
`CODEX_MCP_MAX_ACTIVE_TURNS_PER_PROJECT`	No	Concurrency default: maximum number of active turns per project.
`CODEX_MCP_MAX_APP_SERVER_PENDING_REQUESTS`	No	Concurrency default: maximum number of pending app-server requests.
`CODEX_MCP_MAX_ACTIVE_WRITE_TURNS_PER_PROJECT`	No	Concurrency default: maximum number of active write turns per project.
