Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

Name	Required	Description
`MCPGW_PORT`	No	Port for the server to listen on. Default is 8080. Changing it requires also overriding the healthcheck command.
`MCPGW_DATA_DIR`	No	Directory for data storage (SQLite database and snapshots).
`MCPGW_ROOT_DIR`	No	Root directory for the application.
`MCPGW_ALLOW_HTTP`	No	Set to true to allow plain http to a public host when NODE_ENV=production.
`MCPGW_MASTER_KEY`	Yes	Required: exactly 64 hex characters (openssl rand -hex 32). A container without it dies at boot with a ConfigError.
`MCPGW_PUBLIC_URL`	No	The public URL for the gateway, used for Origin checks and client snippets. An https:// domain or IP always works. http://<ip>:<port> works for private and loopback hosts. Plain http to a public host is refused unless MCPGW_ALLOW_HTTP=true.
`MCPGW_ADMIN_EMAIL`	No	Email for the first-run admin bootstrap at boot.
`MCPGW_TRUST_PROXY`	No	Whether to trust X-Forwarded-For headers. Default is true even when unset. Set to false on unproxied runs to avoid client-spoofable rate limits and audit trails.
`MCPGW_METRICS_TOKEN`	No	Token to protect the /metrics endpoint. If set, requests to /metrics must include it.
`MCPGW_ADMIN_PASSWORD`	No	Password for the first-run admin bootstrap at boot. Must be at least 12 characters, otherwise it is logged and skipped.

Guidance the server publishes about itself, which clients place ahead of the tool catalog so the model reads it before choosing anything.
