Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

| EMBED_MODEL | No | The embedding model used for the document corpus. The model name is pinned in ops.index_meta and config; changing EMBED_MODEL without re-ingesting fails loudly instead of silently comparing vectors from different encoders. | |
| OPENAI_API_KEY | No | Optional API key for OpenAI. If not set, the document store indexes lexically and says so in every result (backend: 'lexical'). | |
| ANTHROPIC_API_KEY | No | Optional API key for Anthropic. Required to run accuracy evals and to condense search_documents passages; without it, search_documents returns passages verbatim. |
