# GovBid Global API — MCP Server

A remote [Model Context Protocol (MCP)](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) server that gives AI agents direct, structured access to **U.S. federal contract opportunities** sourced from [SAM.gov](https://sam.gov) (System for Award Management), the official U.S. government procurement portal.

This server exposes the [GovBid Global API](https://github.com/imgproc-git/govbid-mvp) data through MCP tools so that any MCP-compatible AI agent (Claude, other LLM agents, etc.) can search, filter, and retrieve federal bid/opportunity data autonomously.

## What this server does

GovBid Global API MCP Server acts as a bridge between AI agents and live U.S. federal procurement data. Instead of scraping or manually querying SAM.gov, an AI agent can call this server's tools to:

- Discover the API's metadata and licensing terms
- Search recent federal contract opportunities by department, date range, and result limit
- Retrieve a direct link to the official SAM.gov page for a specific opportunity

## Available MCP Tools

| Tool | Auth required | Description |
|------|---------------|-------------|
| `get_api_info` | No | Returns metadata about the API: name, version, description, license, and the `llms.txt` URL. |
| `search_opportunities` | Yes (`api_key`) | Searches federal contract opportunities. Supports filtering by `department`, `days` (lookback window), and `limit` (result count). |
| `get_opportunity_detail` | No | Returns the official SAM.gov source URL for a specific opportunity by ID. |
