vault-dev-broker
Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.
| Name | Required | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| VAULT_ADDR | No | Address of the HashiCorp Vault server the broker logs in to, e.g. https://vault.example.com (or http://127.0.0.1:8200 for a local dev Vault). | |
| OIDC_ISSUER | No | The OIDC issuer of your identity provider, e.g. https://<tenant>/oauth2. The broker discovers the token/authorize/revoke endpoints from <issuer>/.well-known/openid-configuration. Required (or the legacy VERIFY_TENANT) for the standalone broker to sign in; there is no built-in default tenant. | |
| OIDC_SCOPES | No | OIDC scopes to request during sign-in. Add offline_access to get a refresh token (required by Okta). Defaults to "openid email profile offline_access". | |
| VERIFY_TENANT | No | Legacy fallback for OIDC_ISSUER. A bare tenant host (e.g. https://<tenant>.verify.ibm.com) is normalized to the OIDC issuer by the broker; a refresh token stored under the old bare-host key is migrated automatically on first use. | |
| OIDC_CLIENT_ID | No | The client id of the app registered for the broker at your OIDC provider. Required (or the legacy VERIFY_CLIENT_ID) for the standalone broker to sign in. | |
| VAULT_JWT_ROLE | No | Vault JWT auth role name to log in with. Defaults to developer. | |
| WORKSPACE_ROOT | No | Absolute path of the project whose .env.vault the broker reads and writes. Defaults to the client's working directory; set it explicitly for Bob and Cursor (Cursor ignores the cwd of an MCP server entry). | |
| VAULT_JWT_MOUNT | No | Vault JWT auth mount to log in at, one mount per identity provider, e.g. verify-dev or okta-dev. Defaults to verify-dev. | |
| VAULT_NAMESPACE | No | Vault namespace, used by HCP Vault Dedicated (for example admin). | |
| OIDC_LOGIN_TOKEN | No | Which token to present to Vault: access or id. Defaults to access. Use id for providers where the access token is not meant for a third party like Vault (Entra, Auth0, Keycloak) or is opaque (Okta's org authorization server). | |
| VERIFY_CLIENT_ID | No | Legacy fallback for OIDC_CLIENT_ID. | |
| OIDC_REDIRECT_HOST | No | Host used in the loopback redirect URI for the standalone broker's sign-in. Defaults to 127.0.0.1; set to vault-dev.localhost to use the .localhost alias instead. | |
| OIDC_REDIRECT_PORT | No | Port used in the loopback redirect URI for the standalone broker's sign-in. Defaults to 41837. | |
| VERIFY_REDIRECT_HOST | No | Legacy fallback for OIDC_REDIRECT_HOST. | |
| VERIFY_REDIRECT_PORT | No | Legacy fallback for OIDC_REDIRECT_PORT. |
