Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
DO_NOT_TRACKNoSet `DO_NOT_TRACK=1` to turn off the one anonymous usage ping a day. Equivalent to `engram telemetry off`.
ENGRAM_TOOLSNoOpt in to the 40 Advanced MCP tools (instead of only the 19 Core tools loaded by default) with `ENGRAM_TOOLS=all`.
ENGRAM_SEARCHNoSet `ENGRAM_SEARCH=hybrid` to enable optional hybrid retrieval (FTS5 full-text plus a semantic vector layer) for cross-lingual recall. Requires `pip install "piia-engram[vector]"`. Default keyword search stays unchanged if unset.
ENGRAM_APPROVALNoSet `ENGRAM_APPROVAL=strict` to gate every write behind your review. High-risk items (credentials, shell commands, MCP config, permission rules) wait for review, while low/medium writes are auto-absorbed but fully auditable and reversible.
ENGRAM_NO_UPDATE_CHECKNoSet `ENGRAM_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1` to turn off the once-a-day PyPI version check performed in interactive terminals.
