Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
--configNoPath to a JSON config file, e.g. charlotte --config charlotte.config.json. If omitted, charlotte.config.json in the working directory is loaded automatically when present. Every section is optional; an empty {} is valid.
--profileNoStartup profile controlling which tools load into the agent's context. One of: browse (default, 23 tools), core (7 tools), full (43 tools), interact (31 tools), develop (34 tools), audit (14 tools). Example: charlotte --profile core.
--no-sandboxNoCLI flag that disables the Chromium sandbox. Equivalent to the CHARLOTTE_NO_SANDBOX=1 environment variable or "browser": { "noSandbox": true } in the config file.
--init-scriptNoPath to a script to run on every new document before page JS; repeatable. Equivalent to browser.initScripts in the config file or the CHARLOTTE_INIT_SCRIPT environment variable.
CHARLOTTE_NO_SANDBOXNoSet to 1 to disable the Chromium sandbox (e.g. CHARLOTTE_NO_SANDBOX=1 charlotte). The Chromium sandbox is enabled by default; opt out explicitly where the kernel sandbox is unavailable (containers, or running as root bare-metal). Equivalent to the --no-sandbox CLI flag or "browser": { "noSandbox": true } in the config file.
CHARLOTTE_OUTPUT_DIRNoDirectory where Charlotte writes output files (default ./charlotte-output). Equivalent to the output.dir setting in the config file.
CHARLOTTE_INIT_SCRIPTNoPath to a script that should run on every new document before page JS. Equivalent to browser.initScripts in the config file or --init-script <path> on the CLI.
CHARLOTTE_CDP_ENDPOINTNoCDP endpoint used to connect Charlotte to an existing Chromium instance.
