Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

| source | Yes | Readest data source. Use "cloud" for Readest Cloud, or "local" for a saved local Readest library. Saved in ~/.config/readest-mcp/config.json. | |
| cache_dir | No | Directory for cache data. Defaults to ~/.cache/readest-mcp. Relative paths resolve beside the configuration file; ~ is supported. | |
| library_dir | No | Absolute path to the local Readest library directory containing library.json. Used when source is "local". May be omitted only if one saved library exists in a standard app location. | |
| content_roots | No | Parent directories for imported files stored outside the library directory. Used with a local library. |
