Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
TMUX_AGENT_HOMENoThe tmux-agent home directory (logs, ledger, web token, lexicon.json). Defaults to ~/.tmux-agent.
TMUX_AGENT_ACTORNoThe actor name recorded as the owner (@agent_owner) of sessions this MCP server spawns; kill refuses sessions another actor owns. Shown in the .mcp.json / claude_desktop_config.json example as "my-supervisor".
TMUX_AGENT_SOCKETNoThe tmux socket (-L name) to use instead of the default isolated socket `tmux-agent`. A value that is not a valid -L name ([A-Za-z0-9._-], 1 or more) is refused with exit 64 before anything is touched.
TMUX_AGENT_LEXICONNoPath to a lexicon.json file holding the vocabulary the tool reasons with (agent profiles, parents, redaction patterns). A named file that is not there, is a directory or cannot be read fails loudly with exit 78; no file at the default path means behaviour identical to the defaults.
