# WerkCV – Dutch CV check (MCP server)

A hosted, remote [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) server that grades a CV for the
Dutch job market, compares it with a vacancy, and opens it in the [WerkCV](https://werkcv.nl/en) editor.

- **Endpoint:** `https://werkcv.nl/api/mcp`
- **Transport:** Streamable HTTP (stateless)
- **Authentication:** none
- **Registry name:** `nl.werkcv/cv-check` ([official MCP Registry](https://registry.modelcontextprotocol.io))
- **Docs:** https://werkcv.nl/en/ai-assistant (Dutch: https://werkcv.nl/ai-assistent)

This repository documents the hosted server: connection instructions, the tool contract and example
answers. The server runs as part of the WerkCV web app; there is nothing to install or self-host.

## Tools

| Tool | What it does | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `check_cv` | Grades a CV 0–100 (plus a 1–10 grade) on content, readability for application systems (ATS), contact basics and Dutch conventions. Returns the three fixes to make first, each with the section, the place and an exact quote from the CV, plus stats such as weak bullet openers and clichés. | Free, no AI, nothing stored. |
| `match_vacancy` | Compares a CV with one vacancy, requirement by requirement (must / nice, match / partial / missing), with quotes from both texts, missing ATS keywords and the fixes to make first. The score is computed from the requirement list. | Uses AI, rate-limited, nothing stored. Never suggests claiming experience the user does not have. |
| `open_in_editor` | Returns a single-use link that opens the CV (and optionally the vacancy) in the WerkCV editor, no account needed. | The text is kept for at most 60 minutes and deleted when the link is first opened. |

Every successful answer is returned as `structuredContent` and as the same JSON in a text block, and
follows the published `outputSchema` of each tool. Each answer includes `nextStep`, a suggested follow-up.
See [`examples/`](examples) for full answers for a fictional CV.

Input for all tools: `cv_text` (200–25,000 characters), optional `locale` (`nl` or `en`, detected when
omitted); `match_vacancy` and `open_in_editor` also take `vacancy_text` (120–18,000 characters).
Remove BSN, ID and bank numbers from the CV before sending it.

## Connect

**Claude (claude.ai / desktop):** add it from the Connectors Directory ("WerkCV CV-check"), or
Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → `https://werkcv.nl/api/mcp`.

**Claude Code:**

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http werkcv https://werkcv.nl/api/mcp
```

**Cursor** (`.cursor/mcp.json` or `~/.cursor/mcp.json`):

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "werkcv": { "url": "https://werkcv.nl/api/mcp" }
  }
}
```

**VS Code** (`.vscode/mcp.json`):

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "werkcv": { "type": "http", "url": "https://werkcv.nl/api/mcp" }
  }
}
```

Any other MCP client that supports remote Streamable HTTP servers: use the endpoint above, no headers needed.

## Try it

> Check my CV against Dutch norms: *(paste your CV)*

> Does my CV fit this vacancy? *(paste CV and vacancy)*

## Limits

Per IP address: `check_cv` 30 per hour, `match_vacancy` 8 per hour and 20 per day, `open_in_editor` 5 per hour.
When a limit is reached the tool returns a clear "limit reached" message.

## Privacy and cost

- The check and the vacancy comparison store nothing. The vacancy comparison sends the text to OpenAI for the analysis.
- Only `open_in_editor` keeps the text, for at most 60 minutes, and deletes it when the link is first opened.
- Only counts are recorded (tool, locale, outcome), never the CV or vacancy text.
- The tools are free. In the WerkCV editor, building and previewing a CV is free; downloading the PDF costs
  €7.95 once, with no subscription.
- Privacy policy: https://werkcv.nl/en/privacy
