A Model Context Protocol server

This is a TypeScript-based MCP server that implements a simple weather service. It demonstrates core MCP concepts by providing:

• A resource for getting the current weather

• A tool for getting a weather forecast

Features

Resources

• List and access the current weather via a weather:// URI

• The resource provides temperature, conditions, humidity, and wind speed.

Tools

• get_forecast - Get the weather forecast for a city.

  • Takes a city name and number of days (1-5) as parameters.

Development

Install dependencies:

npm install

Build the server:

npm run build

For development with auto-rebuild:

npm run watch

Installation

To use with a compatible client, add the server config. For example, for Claude Desktop:

On MacOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json On Windows: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Debugging

Since MCP servers communicate over stdio, debugging can be challenging. We recommend using the MCP Inspector, which is available as a package script:

npm run inspector

The Inspector will provide a URL to access debugging tools in your browser.
