# Infinity MCP Server (StartInfinity)
An advanced Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that empowers Large Language Models (like Claude Code, Antigravity, and GitHub Copilot) to seamlessly manage and interact with [StartInfinity](https://startinfinity.com) boards using natural language.
## What it does
Instead of forcing AI agents to struggle with complex UUIDs, this server translates human-readable entity names ("status Doing", "assigned to John", "project Phoenix") into the proper internal identifiers, handles data normalization, and returns human-readable responses.
### Key Features
- **Dual-Transport Architecture**: Runs locally via `stdio` (for CLI tools) or remotely via `http` using Server-Sent Events (SSE) for integrations like n8n or Open WebUI.
- **Natural Language Translation**: Fully resolves UUIDs in the background. The AI only speaks human names.
- **Dynamic Security Header (`X-MCP-Key`)**: In HTTP mode, you can run a single server instance and gate capabilities per-request. Pass a `read` key for safe dashboard viewing, a `write` key for creating items, or an `admin` key for destructive actions.
## Installation & Setup
1. Clone the repository and install dependencies:
```bash
git clone https://github.com/dasgltd/start-infinity-mcp-server.git
cd start-infinity-mcp-server
npm install
```
2. Copy the environment template:
```bash
cp .env.example .env
```
3. Fill in your `.env` file. You will need a Personal Access Token from your Infinity Profile -> Developer -> API.
## Usage
### Local CLI (stdio)
Build and run the server using stdio transport (ideal for `claude` CLI or Cursor):
```bash
npm run build
npm start
```
### Remote Service (http / n8n)
Start the server in HTTP mode:
```bash
npm run build
npm run start:http
```
This will open an SSE endpoint at `http://localhost:3000/message`.
*See the `n8n/` folder for an example workflow integration.*
## Security Notes
> [!IMPORTANT]
> The server heavily relies on environment variables for security.
> - `INFINITY_WRITE_KEY` and `INFINITY_ADMIN_KEY` act as passwords for the `X-MCP-Key` header.
> - If left blank, the server defaults to strict global legacy switches (`INFINITY_READ_ONLY=true`).
> - Destructive actions (like Delete) ALWAYS require the Admin key.
