Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
GROQ_API_KEYNoProvider credential example for the Docker/proxy setup; omit it for a credential-free start, in which case the proxy can answer only while an enabled keyless route (Pollinations, OVHcloud, Kilo Gateway, LLM7) is available. Any provider credentials can be placed in .env for the bundled Open WebUI stack.
FREELLMPOOL_MODENoConservative quota mode: set to "wise" so ask defaults to a smaller output budget and spread routing, tokenmax narrows its default fan-out, and broad multi-model calls require confirmation unless --yes is passed. Per-command --mode normal|wise overrides this, and [settings] mode works from config.toml.
FREELLMPOOL_ROUTINGNoRouting mode. Set to "fast" to prefer the lowest-latency provider instead of the default least-used-first routing.
FREELLMPOOL_PROXY_KEYNoSet this to require a Bearer token from proxy clients, and to make the browser dashboard/playground prompt for it. Needed when the proxy is deliberately exposed beyond loopback; on loopback any placeholder API key works unless this is configured or --api-key is passed.
FREELLMPOOL_PUBLIC_BADGENoSet to 1 to make the proxy serve public embeddable badges at /badge.svg and /summary.svg.

Instructions

Guidance the server publishes about itself, which clients place ahead of the tool catalog so the model reads it before choosing anything.
