Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
TOOLSNoEquivalent to the `--tools` flag. Comma-separated list of categories, tool names, and Actor names (e.g. `actors,docs,apify/web-search,apify/web-fetch`). When set, the defaults are dropped and only what you list is loaded, plus the run and storage tools whenever the list includes `call-actor` or an Actor. On the hosted server this is the `tools` URL parameter.actors,docs,apify/rag-web-browser,apify/web-fetch
ACTORSNoEquivalent to the `--actors` flag. Backward-compatible alternative to `TOOLS`, merged into `tools` (so `?actors=apify/web-fetch` equals `?tools=apify/web-fetch`).
UI_MODENoEquivalent to the `--ui` flag. Controls MCP Apps widget tools: `auto` (default) adds widget tools when the client supports MCP Apps, `true`/`on`/`apps` always adds them, `false`/`off`/`default` adds none.auto
APIFY_TOKENNoYour Apify API token. Needed by the local stdio server (`npx @apify/actors-mcp-server`); the hosted server (https://mcp.apify.com) uses OAuth instead. If you've run `apify login`, the server can also read the token saved by the Apify CLI. Treat the token like a password and keep it out of repositories.
TELEMETRY_ENABLEDNoEquivalent to the `--telemetry-enabled` flag. Telemetry is on by default; set to `false` to opt out of telemetry and Sentry error tracking. CLI flags take precedence over environment variables.true
