youtube_clean_playlist_apply

DestructiveIdempotent

Removes duplicate, unavailable, or watched videos from a YouTube playlist using a verified preview plan token, and cancels the change if the playlist was modified since preview.

Instructions

Remove exactly the videos from a matching youtube_clean_playlist_preview. Requires the same arguments and its plan_token; fails with PLAN_CHANGED and removes nothing if the playlist changed since the preview. Special playlists such as Watch Later cannot be modified.

Input Schema

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
removeYesWhat to remove: later copies of duplicate videos, unavailable (deleted/private) videos, and/or watched videos.
plan_tokenYes
playlist_idYesPlaylist ID or any YouTube URL with a list= parameter.
watched_thresholdNoPercent watched that counts as watched (default 90).

TDQS

A4.9/5.0
Behavior5/5

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

Goes well beyond the annotations by disclosing the PLAN_CHANGED failure mode, atomic behavior (removes nothing on failure), the prerequisite plan_token, and the special-playlist restriction. This is exactly the kind of mutation-safety context an agent needs.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Conciseness5/5

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Three front-loaded sentences with no wasted wording. The core action, prerequisite, failure behavior, and restriction are all stated efficiently.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Completeness5/5

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

Complete for a destructive playlist mutation tool: it covers the preview/apply workflow, precondition, failure behavior, and unsupported playlists. With annotations already carrying the safety profile and no output schema, no essential calling context is missing.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Parameters4/5

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Adds meaningful semantics for plan_token, which is undocumented in the schema, by explaining it comes from a matching preview and must correspond to the same arguments. The schema already documents the remove options, playlist_id, and watched_threshold, so remaining parameter detail is appropriately left to it.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Purpose5/5

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb and resource: remove videos from a matching preview. It clearly distinguishes this apply tool from the preview sibling and from generic removal tools by tying it to a preview plan token.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Usage Guidelines5/5

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

Explicitly states when to use it (with a matching preview and its plan_token) and when not to use it (special playlists such as Watch Later cannot be modified). It also explains the failure condition that prevents unsafe application.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
