# Linear Issue MCP
An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for Linear. Use it from Claude Desktop or any MCP client to create, search, update, and comment on Linear issues.
## Requirements
- Node.js 18+
- A Linear API key ([team settings → API](https://linear.app/YOUR-TEAM/settings/api))
## Setup
```bash
git clone https://github.com/aniketsharma/linear-issue-mcp.git
cd linear-issue-mcp
npm install
npm run build
```
Create a `.env` file (or set the variable in your MCP client config):
```bash
LINEAR_API_KEY=your_api_key_here
```
### Claude Desktop
Add to `~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json` (macOS):
```json
{
"mcpServers": {
"linear": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "linear-issue-mcp"],
"env": {
"LINEAR_API_KEY": "your_linear_api_key_here"
}
}
}
}
```
For local development without publishing, point `command` at `node` and `args` at the built entry:
```json
{
"mcpServers": {
"linear": {
"command": "node",
"args": ["/absolute/path/to/linear-issue-mcp/build/index.js"],
"env": {
"LINEAR_API_KEY": "your_linear_api_key_here"
}
}
}
}
```
