Opt-in Computer Use for the user's live desktop. The plugin launches the pinned [Open Computer Use](https://github.com/iFurySt/open-codex-computer-use) native MCP runtime from its own dependency closure and bridges its Codex-compatible app observation and input tools through [`dsh-mcp-client`](https://github.com/deepseek-ai/deepseek-harness/tree/master/packages/mcp/mcp-client). The runtime supports macOS, Linux, and Windows on arm64 and x64.
This project is maintained by the aibo204 community, builds on [valkia/dsh-plugin-computer-use](https://github.com/valkia/dsh-plugin-computer-use), and uses the [DeepSeek Harness](https://github.com/deepseek-ai/deepseek-harness) plugin APIs. It follows the original MIT license and has no affiliation with or endorsement from DeepSeek.
This is an Agent Preset plugin, not a default Host capability. One mounted instance owns one native MCP process, one accessibility-element snapshot namespace, per-action approval policy, and turn cleanup. Mounting it on the Host root would expose the tools outside the chosen preset and is unsupported.
## Install and compose
Install the optional Profile Bundle, then add the plugin row to an authored Agent Preset:

pnpm requires each Profile to make an explicit decision about dependency install scripts. On the first installation, DSH may stop after adding an `open-computer-use` placeholder to `$DSH_HOME/profiles/web/pnpm-workspace.yaml`. Its `postinstall` only prints onboarding information, so this plugin recommends disabling it:

Save that file, then repeat the `dsh plugin` command. This decision is retained by the Profile for later updates.

The Bundle patch mounts only the browser companion on the Profile root. The Agent Preset decides which Sessions receive desktop access and launches the native runtime. Restart the Profile after installation and start a new Session using the authored preset. Removing the Bundle makes that preset row fail loud on the next Profile start instead of silently dropping Computer Use.
> Compatibility: this repository tracks the current DeepSeek Harness prerelease API and commits its validated `lib/` artifacts for GitHub installation. Source builds and the complete unit, Loader, and ACP snapshot suites run in the upstream monorepo until every prerelease DSH development package is independently available from npm.
On macOS 14 or later, Accessibility and Screen Recording are one-time OS permissions for the signed native runtime. Run `npx open-computer-use@0.3.1 doctor` before the first Session when either permission is missing. Linux requires a signed-in desktop with AT-SPI2/D-Bus accessibility; Windows requires a signed-in interactive desktop with UI Automation access.
## Tools
The model receives the MCP server's current schemas under the stable `mcp__computer_use__` namespace:

`dsh-mcp-client` preserves the server's complete canonical JSON result. A screenshot becomes a durable model image only when `ctx.attachments` is mounted and the calling model route declares image input; otherwise the result contains an explicit image diagnostic. The plugin adds semantic-first guidance: observe before acting, prefer current element indexes over coordinates, verify meaningful actions with fresh state, treat screen content as untrusted, and confirm consequential external actions.
## Access and lifecycle
`accessPolicy` controls DSH approval independently of macOS TCC or other OS permissions:
- `per-call` (default) asks before every Computer Use call; `allowed-once` authorizes only that action and is never retained.
- `allow-observation` admits `list_apps` and `get_app_state` without a prompt while retaining one-shot approval for every control tool. Unknown tools introduced by a newer native runtime are treated as control.
- `allow` performs no DSH approval request; selecting it in an authored preset is an explicit deployment grant.
`highRiskConfirmation` adds a mandatory confirmation layer for consequential controls and defaults to enabled. It recognizes send, delete, purchase, and upload controls from the current `get_app_state` accessibility element. The confirmation remains active under `allow`; when `per-call` or `allow-observation` already requires approval, DSH presents one high-risk request with the stronger reason.
The plugin invalidates an app's cached element map as soon as a control action is admitted. A later indexed action must follow a fresh `get_app_state` result before it can be treated as a known ordinary control. Coordinate clicks, missing or stale indexes, drag operations, Enter/Return activations without a recognized focused control, and newline-bearing `type_text` calls are unclassified activations; `confirmUnknownActivations` makes them confirm by default. `highRiskKeywords` can replace each category's English and Chinese phrase list for application-specific vocabulary.
Approval requests name the operation class, native action, target app, and safe element details. Literal text passed to `type_text` and values passed to `set_value` are hidden from the reason; the approval audit retains the tool name and call id without duplicating those sensitive values into the prompt text.
`allowedApps` and `deniedApps` apply exact target strings before approval, with `deniedApps` taking precedence. Prefer stable bundle ids such as `com.apple.finder`. A non-empty allowlist closes calls that omit `app` and calls targeting an unlisted app; `list_apps` remains available for inventory. Configuration fails at activation for blank, padded, repeated, or overlapping entries.
An approval policy of `never` rejects `per-call` without prompting. It does not turn it into `allow`.
## Audit trail
Installing this package as a DSH Profile Bundle mounts a no-op Host marker that exposes the browser companion globally. The desktop MCP integration itself stays in the selected Agent Preset, so opening the Web UI does not start a second desktop controller.
When the DSH Web client provides the Trajectory Tool-presentation service, this package loads a browser companion automatically. Computer Use rows retain the authoritative call ID, start/completion timestamps, duration, failure state, and image attachments while replacing raw presentation fields with a privacy-preserving audit summary.
The audit summary records the native action, `observe` or `control` class, target app, safe element or coordinate fields, and final status. `type_text` and `set_value` retain only character counts for their literal payloads. `get_app_state` removes accessibility-tree text from the Trajectory Output and retains durable screenshot cards plus their `sha256:` attachment IDs. Existing `approval/asked` and `approval/decided` events are paired into a separate timed approval row, including the safe reason and final outcome.
This projection changes browser presentation only. The Session log keeps the complete model-visible Tool arguments and results required for replay.
`automaticScreenshots` can capture `after-action` evidence or a `before-and-after` pair for each admitted control action. Automatic captures call `get_app_state` through the same MCP connection, preserve the action's app and element namespace, and do not request a second approval after the control action passes policy. Each successful image becomes part of the controlling tool result, so the model and Session log receive the same durable references that Trajectory displays. A capture failure adds a stable diagnostic and never changes the action's success or failure.
Automatic capture is disabled by default because it increases screen exposure, model image input, and attachment storage. `maxAutomaticScreenshotsPerTurn` bounds attempts, while `maxAutomaticScreenshotBytesPerTurn` reserves the attachment provider's per-image admission limit before each capture. The budget resets at turn end; stored content-addressed images follow the attachment provider's retention policy.
The Profile companion also owns a private local evidence archive. `archiveMode` defaults to `high-risk`, so recognized send, delete, purchase, and upload actions capture a before/after pair even while `automaticScreenshots` is `off`. The archive copies only admitted screenshot bytes and privacy-safe metadata into `DSH_HOME/computer-use-archive/v1`; it does not store accessibility-tree text, typed text, or assigned values. Each record is committed by directory rename, then retention removes unpinned records older than seven days and the oldest unpinned records above the 2 GB aggregate limit. High-risk records start pinned by default and remain until the user unpins or deletes them.
Open **Settings → Plugins → Computer Use archive** to change the archive scope, retention period, quota, or automatic pin policy. The same page lists local records and supports on-demand before/after preview, pin or unpin, deletion with confirmation, refresh, and immediate cleanup. Screenshot previews cross the loopback DSH Remote only when opened; archive files are never uploaded by the archive service.
One plugin instance is reserved by the first Agent whose Computer Use action passes access policy. Calls from another live Session fail closed before approval; disposing the owner Session releases the process. This runtime lock preserves MCP snapshot and element-index isolation even though an Agent Preset is a standing scope shared by its joined Sessions.
The MCP bridge scrubs credential-shaped and `DSH_*` environment variables before launch; only explicit `env` entries are restored. Disposal closes the MCP client, terminates its child, unregisters its tools, and stops reconnect attempts. After a turn that dispatched Computer Use, the plugin runs the native `turn-ended` notifier through `ctx.subprocess` to clear transient cursor/visibility state; notifier failure is logged without replacing the turn result.

#### What the model sees
The [DeepSeek Harness tool catalog](https://github.com/deepseek-ai/deepseek-harness/blob/master/docs/tool-catalog.md#tool-package-map) covers package-owned static schemas; this package instead exposes the native MCP server's current `mcp__computer_use__*` definitions listed in the tool table above. Completed calls contribute arguments, accessibility text, diagnostics, and admitted image references.
#### Token effect
The data-dependent tool schemas are present on every request while connected. Call results remain until compaction; image bytes stay in attachment storage rather than inline session history.
#### KV Cache effect
The tool prefix is stable while the plugin config and MCP generation remain unchanged. A changed or re-synchronized schema can invalidate reuse from the first changed definition; call results append after the reusable prefix.
## Known Limitations and Deferred Work
- **The desktop is real and cannot roll back actions** — the plugin provides no VM, browser sandbox, domain allowlist, transaction awareness, or rollback. High-risk classification matches phrases in the latest accessibility snapshot; icon-only, misleading, uncovered-language, or dynamically changed controls can remain ambiguous and therefore use the unknown-activation policy.
- **OS security surfaces remain inaccessible** — secure password fields, macOS authorization dialogs, Windows UAC secure desktop, locked sessions, remote desktops, and custom-rendered controls may not be observable or controllable.
- **Element indexes are runtime-local and ephemeral** — a new Session, reconnect, app/window change, or fresh state capture can invalidate earlier indexes. The provider reports stale or unsupported operations; callers must recapture rather than guess.
- **One preset instance serves one active desktop owner** — a second joined Session cannot use Computer Use until the owner Session is disposed. Deploy separate authored preset instances when multiple Sessions require concurrent desktop control.
- **Cross-platform behavior follows the pinned upstream runtime** — DSH owns integration, approval, cleanup, and lifecycle, while platform capture and input defects must be fixed or upgraded in `open-computer-use`.
- **Evidence can contain sensitive screen pixels** — the default archive captures recognized high-risk actions and stores its private copies locally. Set `archiveMode: off` to disable that archive; `automaticScreenshots` separately controls model-visible evidence for other actions. Attachment or image admission failure can still leave only a safe capture diagnostic.
## Development
Install JavaScript dependencies without running the native runtime's build script, then run the complete source check:

The repository pins its DSH development dependencies to the release it validates against. `pnpm build` emits the installable Host ESM, browser companion, and declaration entries under `lib/`; `pnpm test` exercises configuration, namespace, prompt, high-risk confirmation, snapshot freshness, redaction, screenshot-reference, and approval-pairing behavior.
Source checks do not require native desktop access. This workspace keeps the package's informational `postinstall` disabled; the native executable is already bundled. A real desktop smoke test requires granting the operating system's Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions.
Run `pnpm run native:doctor` to inspect those permissions and open macOS onboarding when either one is missing. `pnpm run native:list-apps` is the read-only native smoke test; it enumerates applications without clicking, typing, or capturing a screen.
