Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.
| Name | Required | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| SSH_MCP_CONFIG | No | Path to the local profile file containing host definitions and credentials. Should be an absolute path (e.g. C:/Files/Codes/ssh_mcp/config.local.json), since the client's working directory is unreliable. | <cwd>/config.local.json |
| SSH_MCP_PASSWORD | No | Fallback password used for authentication when no password is given in the local profile. | |
| SSH_MCP_SSH_CONFIG | No | Overrides the ssh_config path used for host alias resolution (mainly for tests). | ~/.ssh/config |
| SSH_MCP_CONN_TTL_MS | No | Idle TTL in milliseconds for connections kept in the in-process connection pool. | 300000 |
| SSH_MCP_KNOWN_HOSTS | No | Path to the known_hosts file used for host key verification (entries are only appended, never rewritten). | ~/.ssh/known_hosts |
| SSH_MCP_SESSION_TTL_MS | No | Idle TTL in milliseconds after which a persistent session is closed automatically. | 600000 |
| SSH_MCP_EXEC_TIMEOUT_MS | No | Default command timeout in milliseconds (can be overridden per call via timeout_ms, max 600000). | 30000 |
| SSH_MCP_PASSWORD_<ALIAS> | No | Per-host fallback password. The alias is uppercased and every non-alphanumeric character is replaced with an underscore, e.g. SSH_MCP_PASSWORD_LAN. It takes priority over SSH_MCP_PASSWORD. | |
| SSH_MCP_READY_TIMEOUT_MS | No | Upper bound in milliseconds for waiting on the SSH handshake/authentication. | 12000 |
