Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

| ENGRAM_APPROVAL | No | Set to 'strict' to gate every AI write behind user review. By default, high-risk items (credentials, shell commands, MCP config, permission rules) wait for review while low/medium writes are auto-absorbed, fully auditable and reversible. | |
| ENGRAM_NO_UPDATE_CHECK | No | Set to '1' to turn off the PyPI update check performed by the engram command (at most once a day in interactive terminals) and by engram doctor. |
