Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

| KAIROS_JOURNAL_ACTOR | No | Default "who wrote this" name (otherwise the AI supplies one, or the app's own name is used). Typically set to the client app name, e.g. `claude` or `cursor`. | |
| KAIROS_JOURNAL_TOKEN | No | HTTP mode: require `Authorization: Bearer <value>`. A long random secret (e.g. `openssl rand -hex 32`). Required when binding to any address other than 127.0.0.1. Never expose the HTTP mode to the internet without a token. | |
| KAIROS_JOURNAL_SOURCE_URL | No | Where network users can download the source code (overrides `kairosJournal.sourceUrl` in `package.json`). | |
| KAIROS_JOURNAL_ALLOWED_HOSTS | No | HTTP mode without a token: extra hostnames to accept (comma-separated). |
