Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
SLACK_XOXC_TOKENNoManual alternative to the automatic browser login: your Slack web token (xoxc). If set (together with SLACK_XOXD_COOKIE), it overrides the credentials saved in ~/.local/state/slack-readonly-mcp/credentials.json. Normally not needed, since `slack-readonly-login` obtains and stores the token automatically.
SLACK_XOXD_COOKIENoManual alternative to the automatic browser login: the value of the Slack `d` cookie. If set (together with SLACK_XOXC_TOKEN), it overrides the credentials saved in ~/.local/state/slack-readonly-mcp/credentials.json. Normally not needed, since `slack-readonly-login` obtains and stores the cookie automatically.
SLACK_CHROMIUM_PATHNoPath to a custom Chromium/Chrome binary used by the browser-login flow. Defaults to Playwright's bundled Chromium (system Chromium from snap cannot write its profile to ~/.local).
SLACK_ALLOWED_CHANNELSYesRequired, fail-closed allowlist of channels the server may read, as a comma-separated list. Entries can be channel IDs (C01234567, also G.../D...), names (#general or general), or `*` to allow all readable channels and DMs. If empty, the server will not start.
