# FinvizMCP
A [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) (MCP) server that exposes [Finviz](https://finviz.com) stock screening, fundamentals, news, and market data as tools for MCP clients such as Claude Code and Claude Desktop.
> Detached fork of [`tradermonty/finviz-mcp-server`](https://github.com/tradermonty/finviz-mcp-server), maintained here for personal use.
## Features
~40 tools across:
- **Screeners** — uptrend, volume surge, trend reversion, dividend growth, ETF, technical analysis, earnings (pre-market / after-hours / upcoming), and a fully custom screener.
- **Fundamentals** — single or batch stock fundamentals (70+ fields).
- **News** — market, sector, and stock-specific news.
- **Market analysis** — sector, industry, country, and capitalization performance; market overview; relative volume.
- **SEC / EDGAR** — company filings, facts, concepts, and insider transactions.
## Requirements
- Python 3.11+
- A [Finviz Elite](https://elite.finviz.com/elite.ashx) subscription + API key (required for full functionality)
## Setup
```bash
git clone https://github.com/Psichico/FinvizMCP.git
cd FinvizMCP
python -m venv venv
venv\Scripts\activate # Windows
# source venv/bin/activate # macOS / Linux
pip install -e .
```
Create a `.env` file in the project root (it is gitignored — never commit your key):
```env
FINVIZ_API_KEY=your_finviz_elite_api_key_here
LOG_LEVEL=INFO
RATE_LIMIT_REQUESTS_PER_MINUTE=100
```
## Running
```bash
finviz-mcp-server # stdio MCP server
```
The process starts and waits for an MCP client to connect over stdio (no output is expected on its own).
## Connecting to Claude Code
Add an `.mcp.json` at your client's project root:
```json
{
"mcpServers": {
"finviz": {
"command": "C:\\path\\to\\FinvizMCP\\venv\\Scripts\\finviz-mcp-server.exe",
"args": [],
"cwd": "C:\\path\\to\\FinvizMCP",
"env": {
"LOG_LEVEL": "INFO",
"RATE_LIMIT_REQUESTS_PER_MINUTE": "100"
}
}
}
}
```
The `FINVIZ_API_KEY` is read from `.env` (via `cwd`), so it stays out of the committed config. Restart the client and approve the `finviz` server when prompted.
