Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
rootYesAbsolute path to the project directory containing the knowledge layer, passed to the `serve` command as `--root /absolute/path/to/my-project`. Each server process serves one configured project; use absolute paths, especially when a desktop app starts the server from another directory.
allow-writeNoExpose mutation tools (create_note, update_note) by starting `serve` with `--allow-write`. Reading is the default; writes require both this flag and `"allowWrites": true` in the project's configuration. Tools still only apply changes when the caller passes `"apply": true`.

Instructions

Guidance the server publishes about itself, which clients place ahead of the tool catalog so the model reads it before choosing anything.
