Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

| ENGRAM_TOOLS | No | Set to `all` to load all 40 Advanced MCP tools. By default only the 19 Core tools are loaded. | |
| ENGRAM_SEARCH | No | Set to `hybrid` to enable hybrid search (FTS5 full-text plus a semantic vector layer). Default is keyword search. | |
| ENGRAM_APPROVAL | No | Set to `strict` to gate every write with user review. Default policy auto-absorbs low/medium-risk writes (still auditable and reversible). | |
| ENGRAM_NO_UPDATE_CHECK | No | Set to `1` to disable the PyPI update check that runs at most once per day in interactive terminals and on each `engram doctor` run. |
