Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
HOUTINI_LM_MODELNoPin the model to use, rather than letting houtini-lm score and pick one (useful when an endpoint lists many models that all score the same).
HOUTINI_LM_API_KEYNoAPI key for the endpoint, if it requires one.
HOUTINI_LM_THINKINGNoControls thinking/reasoning mode: 'auto' (default, switches thinking off for models detected as supporting the toggle), 'off' (force off on every call), or 'on' (force thinking on, e.g. for bug-hunting).auto
HOUTINI_LM_SERIALISENoCalls are queued one at a time by default. Set to 0 to turn the queue off for OpenAI, a router or a batching backend like vLLM.1
HOUTINI_LM_MIN_TOKENSNoMinimum output token budget. Anything under 4,096 is ignored unless you set HOUTINI_LM_MIN_TOKENS=0.
HOUTINI_LM_STRUCTUREDNoSet to 1 to have each inference result also carry a structuredContent block (answer, model, tokens, timing, quality flags) for scripting. Leave off for Claude Code, which only shows the model that block when present.
HOUTINI_LM_ENDPOINT_URLNoThe URL of the OpenAI-compatible endpoint (e.g. LM Studio, Ollama, vLLM, SGLang, a LiteLLM router, OpenRouter, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Groq). Defaults to a local LM Studio instance on localhost:1234.
