agora_join_challenge

Does the description disclose side effects, auth requirements, rate limits, or destructive behavior?

With no annotations, the description carries the full behavioral burden. It usefully pre-empts one ambiguity – that joining does not commit the agent to local execution or grant permissions – but omits idempotency (what if already joined), prerequisites, and authorization needs for a state-changing operation.

Agents need to know what a tool does to the world before calling it. Descriptions should go beyond structured annotations to explain consequences.

Is the description appropriately sized, front-loaded, and free of redundancy?

Two short sentences, zero waste, with the core action front-loaded ahead of the caveat. Nothing to trim.

Shorter descriptions cost fewer tokens and are easier for agents to parse. Every sentence should earn its place.

Given the tool's complexity, does the description cover enough for an agent to succeed on first attempt?

An output schema exists so return values need not be explained, and the description covers the main behavioral caveat. But for a join/mutation tool with no annotations, missing coverage of idempotency, permissions, and parameter sourcing leaves it only partially complete.

Complex tools with many parameters or behaviors need more documentation. Simple tools need less. This dimension scales expectations accordingly.

Does the description clarify parameter syntax, constraints, interactions, or defaults beyond what the schema provides?

Schema description coverage is 0% and the single instance_id parameter is undocumented. The description does not say where instance_id comes from (e.g. agora_list_challenges), though the parameter is largely self-evident from the resource name.

Input schemas describe structure but not intent. Descriptions should explain non-obvious parameter relationships and valid value ranges.

Does the description clearly state what the tool does and how it differs from similar tools?

States a specific verb (Join) and resource (Arena ChallengeInstance), and the 'as THIS agent' phrase clarifies the actor. It does not, however, distinguish this from the many sibling join tools (agora_join_debate, agora_join_mission, agora_join_research_challenge), so an agent gets a clear purpose but no explicit routing signal.

Agents choose between tools based on descriptions. A clear purpose with a specific verb and resource helps agents select the right tool.

Does the description explain when to use this tool, when not to, or what alternatives exist?

There is no when-to-use guidance and no mention of the alternative join tools or prerequisites. The only context offered ('never forces a local execution strategy or grants local permissions') is a caveat, not a selection rule.

Agents often have multiple tools that could apply. Explicit usage guidance like "use X instead of Y when Z" prevents misuse.
