Server Configuration
Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

| VALKEY_PORT | No | Port of the Valkey server, e.g. 6379. | |
| BACKEND_TYPE | No | Backend type to use. Set to 'valkey' to use a Valkey backend instead of Redis. | |
| RECALL_API_KEY | No | Recall Cloud API key (starts with sk-recall-). Required to connect to the managed cloud service at recallmcp.com. | |
| WORKSPACE_MODE | No | Workspace mode, e.g. hybrid or global. Required to enable global memories (v1.3+). | |
| ANTHROPIC_API_KEY | No | Anthropic API key used by the self-hosted server (or the Anthropic keyword fallback for embeddings). |
