Server Configuration

Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

NameRequiredDescriptionDefault
MCP_DATA_DIRNoRoot folder that the filesystem tools are allowed to access. The default allowed root is your home directory ($HOME, or %USERPROFILE% on Windows). To change the root from the start: `MCP_DATA_DIR=/other/path npm start` (or `set MCP_DATA_DIR=D:\work` then `npm start` on Windows cmd).
PUBLIC_ORIGINNoNon-default variable for the `.env` file (`cp .env.example .env` is optional and only needed if you require PUBLIC_ORIGIN or another non-default var), used when exposing the server through your own public origin instead of Tailscale Funnel.
GROK_CALLBACK_PREFIXNoPrefix used to allowlist Grok's OAuth redirect_uri (observed live: https://grok.com/connectors-oauth-exchange-code/). If a future Grok change moves that callback, a rejected registration logs `register REJECTED (redirect_uri not allowlisted)` so the new value can be re-allowlisted.
