FileZop: MCP Server for Files

FileZop is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that exposes your file system to any compatible AI client or tool. It allows AI agents to read, write, and manage files and folders securely via the MCP standard.

How to Connect FileZop to an MCP Client

  1. Start the FileZop MCP server

npx filezop

By default, this runs a local MCP server accessible at mcp://localhost:3000.

  1. Configure your MCP client/editor to use FileZop

Below are config examples for popular tools. Replace filezop and port as needed.

VSCode

Create or edit .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace:

{
  "servers": {
    "filezop": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["filezop"]
    }
  }
}

Cursor & Claude Desktop

Edit your MCP config (usually in ~/.cursor/mcp.json or ~/.claude/mcp.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "filezop": {
      "type": "stdio",
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["filezop", "start"]
    }
  }
}

  • After saving, restart your editor/desktop app.

  • FileZop will now be available as a tool for AI agents in your environment.
