Describes the environment variables required to run the server.

| VALKEY_PORT | No | Valkey port (e.g., 6379). Required for self-hosted Valkey mode. | |
| BACKEND_TYPE | No | Set to 'valkey' to use Valkey instead of Redis. Required for self-hosted Valkey mode; defaults to 'redis' if omitted. | |
| RECALL_API_KEY | No | Your API key for Recall Cloud (starts with sk-recall-). Required for cloud mode. | |
| WORKSPACE_MODE | No | Set to 'hybrid' or 'global' to enable global memories. Optional, defaults to workspace-only. | |
| ANTHROPIC_API_KEY | No | Your Anthropic API key. Required for self-hosted modes (Redis or Valkey) for embedding fallback. |
